OK - so I should have clarified a little better - this is just a once off trip -I've been accepted into the RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) and this is something that I've been wanting to do for years, and I'm doing the trip as my final trip before entering the Air Force.

I have made a couple of bids on a set of OE 18's at this stage - will hopefully all work out. I've found some 265/65/18 rubber - I presume that this will clear everything without an issue (not a great change in diameter) for 290 each (All Terrain's)

The island itself is only 125km's long - I actually live a lot further south and inland (Dubbo for those who are familiar with Aus) So its not something I plan on visiting all that often..

As to the ruts - my old man went up there not that long back, and he is more than adamant that the x will have no issues - i will be covering all my front bar, so that if I do nudge the sand, I'm not going to leave the island with no paint.. It isn't an unusual thing to hear of Outlanders, Foresters and the sort getting around the island - I'm fair confident the X is equal them in most means.

As for the 300zx - The staggered wheels weren't offered for TT's in the JDM market either - We have to import them from the states if anyone is chasing the wider rears (90% of them in Australia were grey imports from Japland)
