X5 M50d is a diesel, only difference is I believe - bearings, crank mods, strengthening of aluminium block, boosted rail pressure, different injectors and 3 turbo's ( engine weighs 20kg more than the 40d) coupled to a sports 8 speed gearbox.
And it gets better economy than my old 35d did.
