So pre face lift. Ok, just open the transfer case up and replace that chain. There is a DIY on here. Search for transfer case removal with pics. Quite a few have done it.

And I don't get how its slipping. Is it the splines in the shaft that are slipping?

If the chain is stretched, you should be able to hear it slapping around off throttle to sudden throttle.
