Installed an Alpine Stereo/GPS Head Unit. How can I get my MID back?

Hi Guys,

I've got a 2006 BMW X5 E53. I bought it used a little while ago and I replaced the factory installed in-dash wide screen navigation unit with an Alpine unit with a lot more bells and whistles. Of course, when I did this, I lost the ability to control some of the BMW specific features of the car like the auxiliary ventilation, the memo, the clock, etc.

I noticed another thread on this forum where someone placed a stock MID in the glovebox. Here is the post. What do I need in order to do something similar in my vehicle? Clearly I need a MID, but is that it? I had the local stereo shop install the Alpine unit for me, but I think that the wiring harness for the MID is probably floating around and not hooked into anything, so do I just need to run the harness into the glovebox?

Thanks!
