Yeah I have taken mine apart many a time and after the third time noticed some pitting and wear. After check the cage and bearings and such with a dial indicator and Hardinge, everything was within spec.

So I wouldn't be too concerned with it. If it is really bad and noises start to come out, then replace it. Also, next time if the boot is torn, you could just replace the whole shaft.
