Was going to do control arms/ball joints on Saturday, but noticed my driver's front outer CV boot split and slinging grease everywhere. Contemplated tackling the project myself, but didn't really have the time, and the X5 is our only vehicle. We had a lot of driving to do on Sunday and Monday, so I got a quote from the dealer for $617 (indy isn't open on weekends, and Monday was a holiday). Not what I wanted to do, but with a F30 328i loaner til Tuesday, I was willing to suck it up. They called me this morning and told me the passenger side boot was bad as well. Sounded suspicious, but I didn't personally inspect the boot passenger boot myself (definitely should have). Figured I could call their bluff, but they could slice the boot to save face. $1300 later I'm back to normal. OUCH!
P.S. - F30 Mini-review: The 328i sport was a blast. HUD, paddle shifters, streaming Bluetooth audio, navigation, nice exhaust note. The turbo 4 with 8 speed transmission was plenty powerful for all of the highway driving we did, and the SPORT setting made it a lot more responsive. Didn't try SPORT+ w/ DSC off because the weather was bad. Comparing it to the X5 left me missing the cushy seats and overall space. Oh yeah and the power, haha. The engine surprised me quite a bit, but I haven't driven the 335.
