No offense at all.
But wouldnt you think that dumping $6k into the car simply because you failed to maintain it would be 'painful'? Look at what I wrote.
Unlike some, I take a pretty rational approach to maintenance and repair costs...many owners panic with major repairs, thinking "I gotta get out of this car". For me, these things happen. Indeed, you kind of keep a running tally of time/miles and $$$. Every year that goes by without major repairs is 2,3k that goes into the 'rainy day kitty'.
An E70 from 100 to 200k miles will be a pretty nice car ... yes, maybe a bit dated- but decent creature comforts, handling, etc, etc. Put aside a few $K a year for refurb and repair and it will be solid investment.Figure a few odds and ends here and there, maybe an AC compressor, alternator, starter...a some suspension parts... these should be 1, 2k a pop.. nothing catastrophic (hopefully)
All assuming you dont abuse cars and you properly maintain (ie not just what BMW says)
