This happened to me once, when we were camping in Canada...
Left the car running, key and Iphone on the driver door, my son went inside to get his iPad and when he stepped out, touched the door handle, door locked with key and phone inside. Had to call BMW assist to unlock my car.
As I read above, i think the phone signal messes up the signal from my key and the car thinks the key is outsdie the car. Happened a lot of times where I cant start the car as it cant detect the key on my pocket (with my iPhone on the same pocket).
