I just spent a while posting some great info on this and the forum told me to login again meaning I lost my entire post so here is the half arsed version .

Bang the rotor back onto the hub . The internal parking brake drum will have a lip of swollen rust preventing it passing over the shoes .
You will need to back off the adjusters which are exactly at the opposite part of the drum from where the cable enters .
The adjuster is a cogwheel which you adjust one cog at a time with a flat blade screwdriver through one of the wheel bolt holes . You will see it if you use a fine focus light such as an led pencil torch .
To adjust the cog you either rotate it in the direction of where the cable is or rotate it toward the outside of the drum / disc . You will find info on this forum on how to do this , it`s listed somewhere under parking brake adjustment and you may need to search a while .

When you rotate the cog the cog may become tight meaning you have expanded the shoes and so you need to turn the opposite direction until the drum is loose . If this is still not enough clearance or if you have trouble with the cog you can release the parking shoe securing pins which you will see protruding at the rear of the backplate . There are 2 pins at opposite ends . They are "T" pins which you turn 90 degrees to release . They are spring tensioned and may fall into the drum which is no problem . This trick will allow you to pull the drum and shoes out an inch or so to give easier access to the cogwheel although it is best if you can follow the first directions on this .
Sounds like you may already have forced the T pins out by using the hammer .
If so you will need to straighten out locator holes in the backplate .
