I also own the Saris bones 2 and just couldn't figure out how to install it on the X5 in a manner that I was confident would be safe for both the bike and the car. I don't have a hitch (and don't want to pay to install one on a leased car) and would never put anything on the roof on top of that huge panoramic glass... That's why I ended up with the tow hook BMW rack which by the way is supposed to have an extension to accommodate a third bike (part number 82-71-0-307-770) although someone posted a while ago(
(No Hitch) Rear Mount Bike Rack Pic's - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums) that the extension does not work.
