From my research, the 02 and 03 trucks are almost identical.

Since the X5 production started in 1999(?), I would think they had most of the initial issues ironed out by the time the 4.6 came out.

Of course the 4.6 is still subject to all of the same issues as the rest of the V8 X5s.

Go for it. IMO, Estoril 4.6 will continue to be very desireable for years to come. The brakes alone should be worth $3k on the market, and another $6k for the SC kit. I think you can get your $ out of the truck if you need to.
