A number of years ago member in CT found that a previous owner had removed the LED in the CEL prior to selling. I advised him to check Radio Shack for a replacement and he removed the cluster, replaced the LED, put everything back in and found out why it had been removed; The CEL was on and several hundred dollars later he was able to get it to turn off.
Soooooo, if your LED has been removed I suspect there may be an under laying reason and the removal of the LED was the cheapest fix!
