was there any recent work done in the trunk area? you mentioned the front screen being messed up - was there any work done on the screen? I am asking to see if there is a possibility for a kinked or shorted wire in the harness, or a poor connection on the connectors...

When did you notice this ordeal inthe first place? can you attribute that to any external event?
