Although some members say they didnt notice a harsher ride when going up to 20"s,from my experience of going from oem 19"s with 255/50 and 285/45 to 20"s with the oem 275/40/20 and 315/35/20,I found the ride harder but still acceptable.
I have no experience with 17" or 18" on the X5,but I can confirm that I found the ride on the 19" very confortable and allied to great handling.
