get the specialty tool on ebay for starters, its 100 bucks or you can rent in online too. search for rear axle ball joint tool. without the specialty tool i've heard its a bear of a job to press in and out of the carrier.

i think you have to disconnect the integral link and drop the hub down to get access to it, might as well replace any other wear items there while the suspension is apart. guide links and wishbone control arms come to mind.
