I am curious how much of a pan it would be to wrap the console though. A lot of edges that would show pretty bad on a gloss vinyl. Enough of a headache to make me think about living with my dark wood...
If you don't mind a matte finish, you could spray it with PlastiDip black; that stuff goes on as a rubbery coating that sticks pretty well but will peel off easily if you don't like the look. I used it on the exterior trim on my e28 when I painted it three years ago, and it's held up very well, even when parked outside year-round.
