Wow, thanks for the reply. My problem is slightly different but your answer makes me want to get at least an estimate on a replacement/rebuild. Sorry you had to go through that but I'm glad there was a final solution. In my case I would get the transfail message after driving all over town with frequent stops and starts. When I got the message I would reset with my tool and be able to get home. After another reset and a night's rest the error would go away. It seems these cars are so sensitive electronically. Recently I just got the DSC ABS 4X4 error and groaning from the rear. After a reset this went away too but I know a problem exists I just don't know if they are related. I'm still checking.
