Thank you Brian, JCL and ard. The warranty vs insurance policy statement makes sense. The salesman is telling him that the quote is only good now and if he waits until just before the 100K mile mark he cannot honor the quote. I was looking at it as a warranty with mileage brackets.
My dad is so damn attached to this car - it's a V10 tdi. He bought it because they wouldn't lease it at the time. He figured it would be his last car as it would run forever

. Anyway, for the most part it has been problem free. Until the turbos went at 80K miles. Then the drive shaft went and he was stranded on the side of the road. I'm glad he had my nephews with him. One turbo went again recently. My brother and I are trying to convince him to just trade it in and get another car. He is 75 years old and travels up to PA a lot. I'd feel better knowing he was in a new car. He can't get past the fact that it was a $70K vehicle new and now it's worth maybe $20K.
He's making us crazy as far as what VW should do for him to protect him going forward. We are trying to convince him that after the warranty is up, it doesn't make sense to keep it due to the cost of potential repairs. I'll ask him to find out exactly what the policy covers. Hopefully that will change his mind.
Have a good guys. Thanks again.
