They will still their leaks more so for the V8's it seems. I went from an E53 to E70 and its better in some ways and same in others. They will have their creaks to be honest but I think they improved on the Window Regulators. Transmission can get a little confused with gears at times on the E70 and an adaptation reset really makes it seem like a normal SUV again. It does go out of range from time to time. If you get a sport in the 07-2010 models you will get the Adaptive Drive which really makes the handling of the E70 a night and day difference from the E53(sport/nonsport).
There are a few companies that can warranty an X5 just as good as BMW's Gold plan for much cheaper. Check out companies that sells Route 66 warranty. It is exclusionary. I have talked to the service department about claims with Route 66 and they said they have had very good luck with them. If you happen to find a CPO that is even better. Average cost for Route 66 is around $2000-2200. Just keep that in mind.
I personally like the 8's better than the 6. The diesels are not bad at all and get great fuel economy on trips. A little sound to deal with from the engine though. Some don't like diesel fuel and you have to maintain them a little differently but its minor.
I have a 4.8i Sport and although I like the gas mileage from the diesels and the torque I am not sure I would get a diesel if I had it to do all over again. In reality its not like I couldn't do it now. But I like what I have.
When I get tired of the speakers I will have to hit you guys up
Good luck with hunt for your E70.
