The dealer will not see an active code, but I think they can interrogate the DME and find history.

BMWs do funny things as batteries get old... Otherwise normal running but weird voltage fluctuations that can trip spurious errors... Keep this in mind. Batteries not covered by warranty, dealers can rack up $500+ chasing it down.
