Little update:
During the State of the Union address the President said "...countries will have Democracy, but Democracy different from our own. Democracy that reflects the culture of their society..."
Given that, then how can the world denounce Hamas as a leader before they have had a chance to lead? (see latest comments by Jimmy Carter on Larry King last night).
I guess the part throwing me about Foreign Policy in the US (of course other then the fact that elected leaders are allowed to create a new foreign policy every 4 years for the most part) is why we came out so hell bent against Hamas yet in Iran they are creating uranium enriched weapons and in Venezuel Hugo Chaves threates the US daily...yet nothing is done. Hamas has not come out and said "down with America" their main aggression was towards Israel. I guess my commentary is more in line with saying "why is the US so protective of Israel?". I believe as a US citizen this question should be asked. We are overly protective of a land that is not ours, so much so that we are willing to risk ourselves to protect it.
As for history, you don't have to look very far to see where the US was called in to help other countries before all others. Instance, just this week Haiti asked if we could supply US Marines to act as a security force for their elections.
As for the US foreign policy, I believe that is where the majority of our issues reside. Foreign policy in the US is dictated by every new administration, so as a member of the world I can understand completely why this would disparage other nations. For example, when the Clinton administration left power there was a deal on the table with North Korea to stop all Nuclear production out of North Korea. The agreement was all but signed. The day the new administartion walked in they threw the document out. Now if you are North Korea, this was a slap in the face. I'm not getting into peoples opinons of North Korea, more so the changes made with new administrations and their effects on the globe.
You would have to admit, out of all the countries in the world, the elections in the US are the most highly watched because they US is one of the most involved nations on the planet.
And as for the US being a lone superpower...I don't think I could agree with that. After NAFTA and every other free trade deal the US has reliquished its right to the superpower title. China is definitely in contention as a world leader. China is the reason gas prices have gone up. China supplied the US with huge amouts of aid after Katrina. Oddly though in regards to China the US has open arms for importing products yet slams businesses like Google and Yahoo for allowing China's policies to influence their products in that country. Sorry US you can't play both sides of the field. If it is okay to import their products, you can't tell business that they can't play well with others.
