The best description I heard over the weekend, in describing George Jones: 'he was the early Elvis of country music'.
Even for the non-country fans out there in mp3/Itunes land, one ought to give a listen to some of his music: remarkable song writer and equally a great singer, imo.
I have a CD compilation of his 'best stuff', and a few times a year, it is a must listen to hear how one can sing the troublesome, fulsome stories.
81 is pretty good run, esp considering his earlier travails.
