This sounds like a permanent fix for Texas.

In the end I had to contort it upwards, bending the hoses (I know not optimal) but I got it off using a screwdriver without any residual breakage.
The wires looked fine, no fraying from what I can see. I took a 10 minute drive hitting every button possible on the climate control panel repeatedly. Heat all the way up, A/C all the way down, highway speeds, standing still...you get the picture. So far fuse 48 is staying strong, no popage. Taking it to work tomorrow for the real test, fingers crossed...
Side note in case anyone is wondering, the aux water pump makes a noticable difference in the heat temp at low RPM. At a red light with heat on 91F I can feel the air cool considerably. This would suck with winter temps outside.
