Short answer is yes - it is very common, from what i understand everybody has to replace them eventually due to a flaw in the design and chain guides rarely live past 140K - 160K miles...Depending on your skill level this can be DIYed, but i would rate it about 9 or even 10 out 10 on the difficulty level as you have to take apart a lot to get to it...

I am sure some of the guru on this forum can elaborate more on the subject though...
