Thanks...I'll need to add this tidbit to my mental rolodex. Apparently there is a slight difference between the M62TU used in the sedans versus the SAVs.

BTW...let me also add that the "German" brand name filters that I previously mentioned...may have "German" brand names...but could very well be "made in China" or other locals. But the brands mentioned are used by many BMW DIY'ers with no issues...as well as the brands mentioned by TMV.

If memory serves me correct, I think it was the STP filters that many e38 & e39 owners were having issues with where the oil filters were collasping or falling apart in the reservoir. And since the e38/e39/e53 share the same engines and oil filters...e53 owners should beware of this issue.
