I think the differences are negligible. In your idrive, you can change the power from sport to efficient so when you hit the M button, "POWER" doesn't show up next to your gear indicator. From what I understand, sport power mode is a change in fuel maps and throttle responsiveness. Also changes gears at higher RPMs. So the biggest savings in fuel would be lowering your RPMs before each shift.
