I fought this battle when I got my M5. They cannot provide that information as most of it is/was contained in the dealer files from where the car was registered with its DOFU. I did however link with BMW Archives group and they provided me a form to request a certificate "suitable for framing" for a cost of $90. This was the only option they provided to me. This is processed in Germany and is called a BMW Mobile Traditions Certificate. See description below:
BMW Original Production Certificate (your baby's birth certificate):
BMW item number: MT-Cert
Add to your pride of ownership - and authenticate your BMW's original specifications - with a certified Original Production Certificate from the BMW Mobile Tradition Archives. This handsome document, printed on watermarked paper, contains all existing specifications for your car or motorcycle. This includes items such as date of manufacture and delivery, engine and chassis number, original equipment and more - a valuable resource for the vintage BMW collector.
The BMW Certificate, housed in a protective folder is $90 and can be ordered by printing the order form and faxing it, along with proof of ownership and your credit card information, to 1-888 Fax-2-BMW (1-888-329-2269).
NOTE: sticker on my 02 was $66k
