ITS THE TORQUE
..You dont say which 3.0D,but even the earlier 3.0D stock ,has more torque than even some of the V8s ,so will always have quicker acceleration and in gear upto 5000 rpm,then the higher revving petro X5s should have a higher top speed!
If you racing a later 3.0d with twin turbos ,you have no chance even in top speed
