But you can see in the chart below...there were 2 diesel engines and you didn't give which one your bud owns.  If he has the latter M57TUd...you can see that 0-60 is the same (8.8 sec)...and if your M54b30 has a 5 spd tranny...and your bud has the M57TUd and has the 6 spd tranny...that could be another reason it keeps winning:

For information,we dynoed loads of standard early 3.0Ds (184hp/400Nms..Bmw figures),they all measured above these figures,averaging 195hp/460 Nms
..On test track ,with 19" wheels ,we always recorded sub-9 secs to 100 kph!
