Actuator motor resistor change

I had an error in my diagnostics, which was due to a faulty connection to the resistor of the actuator motor of the transfer case. I asked that question here: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...sfer-case.html

So I went to the local shop and asked for a new resistor. They do have one and I plan to have it changed tomorrow, but I have a question:

I think I remember that I've read that the resistor should be programmed to the car, using DIS/GT1 software. The electrician of the shop though, is on vacation and the boss said to me that, programming is NOT necessary.

Can you please clarify this to me? How important is to have the resistor programmed in the car? And what can happen if the resistor is not programmed?

Thanks for all your help guys!
