Also looked up TTY online - had no idea of what exactly that meant. I'm learning all kinds of good stuff here on the xoutpost. Now if I could only get somebody to help replace my timing chain. Don't have the confidence to tackle that one on my own.

BMW recommends the X not be driven without that plate in place and properly torqued.
I think you mean timing chain guides. The chains should be OK.
