My experience when the light comes on... it is usually low 2 quarts before hitting the dipstick. If you check it... it may come out dry. The last time the 4.4 did that, it was 3 quarts. But again, with common sense like the one you have... Check the stick and then use a quart. Check the stick again and keep going from there. I asked the dealer one time and the SA just goes, "Oh, def down 5 quarts before the light comes on." I'm like, wait.... the car wont tell you to check the oil until there is only 3 quarts left? What the hell kinda safety system is that? I've found to just do yourself and let the dealer sell the cars. Unless they send me a coupon for something "Free" i keep my butt out of there.
