We've had our 09 35d for a little over a year and so far it has been great. However, in my experience, the MPG's stated above aren't in line with what we've experienced. I have to really try hard to get 28 mpg on the highway. I would say that 25-26 is a more reasonable expectation, with low 20's combined average city/highway.

Also, in my area, not every gas station uses the larger diameter diesel nozzles that are required to unlock the tab in the X5's fueller neck, which can be somewhat of a pain at times and the diesel pumps are typically messier. They tend to make your hands smell after refueling.

Oil changes are somewhat expensive. Especially if you refill the DEF at the same time. It was about $190 at an indy shop. The dealer wanted even more. However, you can do it yourself for a bit less.

Other than that, I am very happy we chose the 35d. Tons of low end torque. Feels pretty similar to our old 4.4, imo. May be somewhat of a performance downgrade from a 4.6is, but there are tunes that will add a ton power and torque to these things on the cheap if you desire.
