My suggestion for buying parts...is ALWAYS look up the 11 digit BMW part nbr FIRST if you're purchasing from a non BMW vendor. That way you lessen the chance of ordering the wrong part.

If you use any of the online part databases...you can enter the last 7 digits of your VIN...and that will pull up the diagrams and part nbr index specifically for your BMW:
  1. http://bmwfans.info/vin/ (type last 7 digits of VIN in "decode" box, then click BROWSE PARTS tab)
  2. RealOEM.com * Online BMW Parts Catalog
  3. Maximillian Importing Company :: Mobile Traditon Licensee

For example, if you click the following link, you will see the BMW part nbrs (left/right) for the rear air springs for a 2002 4.6is (#1 in the diagram below). Arnott lists the BMW part nbr on their website to help choose the correct ones. You can double check my search by going to one of the linked sites and enter your X5's VIN info, then work your way back to the REAR AXLE (main group) & SELF LEVELING (sub group) to pull up the specific part nbr index for your X5:
