You're correct...I should NOT have said "formally"...sorry for any confusion this may have caused. They indeed are still
BMW of North America, LLC...but they use BMW USA in many of their ads & social media (website etc.) contacts, now.
I've never understood why the USA group took the name "North America" when there's 3 countries on the continent. And since BMW Canada & BMW Mexico are both BMW groups within the company's structure and are both in North America...why co-opt the whole continents name, when you could have used the name of the country (USA in this case) from the start...like most other BMW Groups.
