I just don't like swapping out tires twice a year and having to store an extra set. Heavy wheels. In the name of safety you should always do what's optimal but if you're asking if you can probably get by in this area, I'd say yes.

it is/will be our only vehicle for a little bit and i'm not sure we'll have a second one for next season so to answer the question of parking on piles of snow it is possible, not that with 18" i'll have much better luck but at least it wont be painful on the wheels. not really bothered by storing a second set but wanted to get opinions to make sure i wasnt crazy. now the next question is would 18" off a 5 series fit the x5?
