I would think that you might have an issue with the heater valves. They are located on the driver's side engine compartment near the firewall and under the expansion tank. Sounds like the passenger side might be stuck in a position that allows hot coolant into the heater core.

Thank you. I'll look, and see if I can see where that is. Are they readily accessible from above, or is this something that really needs to be done on a lift by a real mechanic to check?
