ah ok use 2 thinner width ones in the gap on the cv boot side by side, either way it was a pain getting the new metal clamp on but did and it is for sure tighter and does not allow the boot to move along the shaft, whats more did alot of driving turning over speeds humps too, and have checked and seems to be fine hasnt budged.....thanks to all, will be posting my next query now

PS I used a medical syringe with a diy needle made of the plastic tube that goes into window cleaning product bottles to inject ALL the high temp grease provided with the new boot into the cv boot, so seems i either lost all my high temp grease out of the boot over time and didn't notice or mechaninc who installed cv boot was too last to use grease!
