Low annual mileage, short trips, infrequent use, are not the best operating conditions for a diesel. Nor for a gasoline BMW, but a gasoline model may be more tolerant.

I prefer the driving experience of the gasoline model myself. I tried to justify the diesel on cost, but couldn't due to local diesel fuel price per litre. More depreciation with the diesel model where I live. Seems like that may be true in parts of the US as well, if they are selling at similar prices used after the diesel option cost more originally.
