BC - I thought all belt dressing did was cause the rubber to swell slightly which can prolong a belt on its way out. Sort of like moisturizing skin. I think it also adds a bit of tackiness, but a slipping belt is due to bad tension or a worn surface and I dont think lubing it up will make a difference long term.
Yes, if belt dressing is good for anything it is normally something used on an old belt. However, I have used it very sparingly on belts, a little goes a long way, when they got coolant or oil on them which may have happened in this case.

Kinghrh, as mentioned, more often than not the squeaking is caused by something driven by the belts. Was the squeaking there before the belts were changed?
