AVIN HU was great to look at, but paled in audio functionality. iPod loaded songs extremely(!) slow--one song on 80 GB iPod Classic played over-and-over for my entire 15 min trip. Kenwood 891HD loads entire library of 160 GB iPod (Playlist, Favorites, etc exactly as listed in iTunes) within seconds (maybe 1-2 second). Audio adjustments are vast on 891 (visit reputable site like Crutchfield and look at the options).

Back up (i.e. reverse) camera software on AVIN loaded image after anywhere from 3-4 seconds. Count that out -- "one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three, one thousand" -- after you put your car into reverse and are ready to go. That's a long time (relatively speaking). On the 891HD, the Reverse camera is initiated instantly(!). By "instantly" I mean as soon as the startup screen illuminates (<0.5 sec), the reverse camera is showing the image behind my vehicle.

Currently, DNX891HD (pay attention to these numbers, don't confuse with DDX8901HD) uses HDMI and Bluetooth to mirror the image on my Android phone (iPhone is known to have similar function). Note, it mirrors the image; therefore, the phone cannot be controlled through the 891HD screen as with the DDX8901HD. However, I use my Android in Landscape mode and view Google maps in real time, NO lag in video AT ALL (compare lag of other HUs, like AVIN, that mirror phone through Bluetooth only. No matter how fast I scroll through panels on my Android phone, the 891HD does not hesitate.

The look of the install takes some getting used to with the wide border frame caused by the double din install kit (curved fascia looks better than the flat, less expensive counterpart). However, the audiophile HU with on-board navigation and upgradeable maps reduces the effects of the loss in aesthetics. The Kenwood is well worth it.
