I'm using the version with alligator clip

Reason being: our 2009 328Xi definitely requires the alligator clip version because the cigarette lighter socket is not hot with the key off. The battery for this vehicle was on its 6th yr ( since 2008), Im planning to change on its 8th yr.

I agree with upallnight and others, that there is a better product out there than BMW battery tender. With the capability of trickle charger and full/fast charger. Do a research in your own about this.

The problem is you have no garage (with an outlet), even if you use the updated DC plugin, my gut feeling it is not right charging out in the freeze zone ( I can be wrong).

I always keep our m3 hibernate the entire winter with a trickle charge, and once in a while plugin the other two vehicles.

Good luck!
