License plate bulb out warning wont go away

I had the "License plate bulb out" warning come up on my dash and on looking the right hand bulb was not working. I swapped left and right bulbs and proved the bulbs were actually ok so must be the wiring. I checked the voltage across the bulb holders and 12v on left license plate holder, zero volt on right hand one.
I took the complete tailgate lift handle off the car, cleaned it all up and sprayed with contact cleaner - still no power to right hand side. On inspection it looks very hard to dismantle the plastic components as they are all glued together but it appears the 2 lights are wired in parallel so I bridged a wire from the good +12v terminal on the left to the terminal on the right, soldered on solid and now both lights come on fine.
Problem is though the "license plate bulb out" warning still comes on my dash and I have a feeling that is a MOT test failure here in the UK? (might be wrong on that - not sure). It has been on for over a day now.
Does anyone know how I can get the warning to go away?

Why would that be a test failure if all the lights of the vehicle are working correctly? I would imagine that it would fail if the lighting is not working.

In the UK I am told the vehicle testers have to fail a vehicle if there is a warning light or notification on the dash - even if there is no apparent fault. (crazy UK laws probably directed from EU)
