Anyone have Valentine1 & Stealth1 radar setup?

I see that the Stealth1 shows the radar warnings on the nav screen. Got a couple of questions...

1. So you don't need the 'concealed display' option? Radar can continue to operate in dark mode??

2. Do the warnings display on screen for a second or two, or do you have to leave the screen permanently on radar display?? For e.g. if you are in nav mode, will it switch back to showing the map after warnings??

3. I don't suppose it detects photo radar??

1. Correct, you do not need the concealed display. The V1 will continue to work in dark mode.

2. I don't have the display on my NAV so I'm not sure if it switches back or not. I have mine on the dash display under the gauges and it does switch back after the warning.

3. I don't think so.

1. Correct - don't need concealed display - works in dark mode.

2. It will switch back when the radar signal is gone. There are also other options that can be set to alter the behavior on the nav. Check out the S1 web site.

3. No-go on the photo...

4. Highly recommended - excellent mod!

1. So you don't need the 'concealed display' option? Radar can continue to operate in dark mode?? Yes, operates in dark mode when connected to S1

2. Do the warnings display on screen for a second or two, or do you have to leave the screen permanently on radar display?? For e.g. if you are in nav mode, will it switch back to showing the map after warnings?? I don't use the NAV screen display option, I use the MID display option.. I tried both, and I felt that I could react more quickly using the MID display, so I can keep looking straight ahead.

3. I don't suppose it detects photo radar??
No, no photo radar detection

Agree with Coffeeman, I have my display in my front speedo area so you can react quickly and not take your eyes off the road. My iPod displays on the MID in the center console.

And yes this is one of the best mods out there

Hhmmm...I did some more searching on this, and I found a couple of reviews on the V1.

The following link for e.g. suggests that the Escort 8500 was the best in detecting photo radar and the V1 was second. So I guess it does detect photo radar.

Problem is the StealthOne is $200 over and above the price of the V1...

King, you are correct, my bad. This is from the V1 site:

"Does Valentine One warn of photo radar?
- L.B., Oregon

Yes, absolutely, but you don't get nearly as much warning. All the photo radars in the US operate on either K or Ka bands, though they could operate on any band assigned to traffic radar by the FCC. The good news is that the radar beam is on all the time, not playing hide and seek like instant on, so we have lots of time to find it. The bad news is that it uses a narrow beam aimed diagonally across the road. And it's usually very low power, because photo radar doesn't engage the target until it's within a few hundred feet. So you really need detector sensitivity to pick up weak reflections. Today's V1s, and older ones equipped with our latest radar upgrade, offer reliable protection against photo radar, but you have to pay attention."
