How to reset MID mile counter

I'm trying to reset my MID journey mileage.
I want it to be zero. If I put any number in there, I then get a
countdown clock of my estimated time arrival ETA.

I don't want any miles in there, I don't want the clock telling me when I will
arrive.
How do I reset, or turn off that function?

I can't find that in the manual.

Page 89 in the manual...

I think you can press BC -> DIST -> SET -> CLR

Will pop out later and check this in my own car... (at work right now).

If what you're referring to is DIST and ARR...you may not be able to "reset" to zero without pulling the negative battery cable. Do check the operating booklet for the MID (if you have one)...or download one in PDF format (if you don't). Sites like e38.org and its e39 sister site should have MID operating manuals at the bottom of the left column that you can download.

You may need to NOT use those two features if you want to see "0" when you press the button to bring them up. If memory serves me correct...once they've been used...they usually continue to count down...going into negative numbers unless you constantly reset them or use them for another distance/arrival calculation. I would only use these features if I needed to know how long it will take to get to a specific location in consideration of other factors like stops/starts/slow traffic/heavy traffic/traffic jams/clear roads/etc. For instance, if you were running low on gas...and you pass a sign that says the next fueling stations are 75 miles away...you could enter this data in DIST...then the ARR feature will approximate the time you'll arrive at that point.

"Journey mileage" would be "trip odometer" in my head. The use of DIST & ARR I would use for a slightly different purpose.

Qsilver7 is right (as usual! ) - it seems only a battery pull with clear this distance value. I just popped out to the car and tried. It was set to zero, as I had recently disconnected the battery (while messing with door wiring) but once I entered any value, I cannot get it back to zero.

Thanks for the input, wpoll. I wasn't exactly sure...it was more like a thought on a card...stuck loosely in my "mental rolodex".

If not being able to reset to zero is bothersome...like mentioned, you can pull the negative battery cable and it will go back to zero. If you don't really use this feature...and you have to scroll through it when you're using the BC button on the end of your turn signal stalk...then just reprogram your OBC and leave DIST & ARR out of the mix. You can choose all or only the OBC features you want to appear in the instrument cluster display. There's no need to scroll through ALL of them if you don't want.

Thanks so much guys.
I have my first X5 road trip planned and I want to have it go well.
Gotta show the wife how cool X5 is to take an adventure in.

Dallas to Lubbock to see where all my money is going......
Scratch that..... Visit the daughter in College. Go Texas Tech.

Last time I was there I felt like the movie Old School.
I kicked those wiper snapper back side in a game of beer bongs.

Dude, your Dad can chug a beer faster than anyone I have ever seen.

At least I was cool that evening.

My 650 mile road trip went great.
Dallas to Lubbock.
Kept the speed about 75-80.
The overall MPG was 19.7 MPG.

As mentioned in your other thread... I kinda figured this out....

Once the preset distance decrements to zero, it goes into negative numbers and continues to decrement. Eventually it decrements all the way down to "-999" (miles or kilometers) and then it changes to "---" and stays there.

So it's not like you can reset it but if you wait 1000 miles (or a million meters!) it'll get back there by itself.

Well...that's one to add to the old mental Rolodex.
