I had the same problem with my x5 last winter. It's actually good that it shows the temp not reaching normal. Mine sadly showed normal because of the moronic non/gauge that operates like an idiot light (snaps to top position when 30° F below operational temp. I drove several thousand miles running not closed loop getting terrible mileage until it was single digits outside and the cabin didn't get any heat.
Tip: for changing the t-stat use 1-1/4 inch wrench and hit with a hammer to remove the fan. Search YouTube you'll see examples. Way easier than the official tool. Check your average mileage now and after the new t-stat. Mine went from 18 to 21 highway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
