Wiper / airbag / seatbelt issues - help, please!
I am experiencing a few electrical issues - looking for troubleshooting advice. Background: I installed an Avin 4 to replace my stock nav system about a month ago. In order to do this, I removed the passenger seat. When I was done, I reset the airbag light that came on. Since then, I have been getting an intermittent airbag light (code - module power), which has been getting more frequent. I am also getting a seatbelt disconnected light, which was reset by relatching the driver's seat belt. At this point, relatching makes no difference. Today, driving home in the rain, I realized that the intermittent/rain sensing front wipers are not working - the regular speeds work, but in the intermittent setting, they don't move, except by moving the adjustment/delay knob, in which case they cycle once and the park themselves. I also noticed that the rear wiper is parking in different positions. Are these all interrelated? Coincidental? Thoughts are welcome. TIA. |

Go back over everything you did installing the Avin Avant-4. I am guessing you missed one of the connections to ground when you ran the 12M extension cable. Also for grins, if you installed the iBus adapter, unplug it just incase it it disturbing your K-Bus messaging and see if your problems still exist.

I will disconnect the I bus adapter. What connections to ground? The extension cable allows for direct connection - I did not do any additional grounds/ power wires.
I'm wondering if this is coincidental to installing the Avin, or related... |

I found 2 more symptoms:
1. Rear wiper cycles every time I I turn key on, even though wiper control is in the off position. 2. Steering wheel controls work intermittently. Maybe an ignition switch issue? Still have to remove the resler ibus unit. |

It all sounds like you have K-Bus messaging issues. Unplug that Resler adapter. Is this an AVIN unit that you plugged the adapter directly into the AVIN harness or did you splice anything?

No splicing - used the Avin plug in the harness.

OK, best to get in there and pull the Resler adapter first. If that has no effect, disconnect the CAN Bus adapter for the steering wheel controls. If you still have a problem, it is not in your AVIN Avant-4.

Thanks for your help. I will disconnect when I leave work, and see what happens...

Ok, on the way home I disconnected both the canbus and ibus adapters. I cleared the airbag light, and it stayed off. Wipers seemed normal.
Then I reconnected the canbus module. Airbag light came back on. Just to be rigorous, I disconnected the canbus module and reconnected the ibus module - no airbag light. So I guess the canbus box (or Avin canbus circuitry, or cabling) is causing the issues. Off to message Avin. |

You found your culprit. At least the unit is completely usable short of steering wheel controls. They should get back to your email in a couple of days.
