02 HID to 01 Halogen Swap HELP!!!

So I have an 01 3.0 and will be getting my hands on an 02 HID housings. I am planning to do a swap and am wondering what I need to make it happen. I have read the article below about the relay packs and am wondering if it applies. Anyone know if its jsut a plug and play or do I need extra parts? Thanks for your help guys.

Should be 100% plug and play but you will need to get your ECU flashed by the dealer to accept the new xenons.

Do not try to get your ECU flashed. If you have halogen lamps now then you need relay packs. Flashing will lead to other problems because there is no self leveling control computer that "self-tests" and reports to the ECU.

X5's must be different because for E46's (which have autoleveling with xenons) flashing the ECU simply gets rid of the dash warning.

If you use the OEM ballasts (Hella) then from what I understand you don't need relays/resistors to stop the bulb alarm.
If you use aftermarket ballasts then you may well need the relay/resistors, I've heard the latest X5 (brand of the kit not the car) HID kits have ballasts which don't need the resistors.

You also need self leveling if you are to install Xenons, check the back of your halogens to see if you have this. If you don't there is an article here somewhere about how to do it.
Don't really think you need to flash the ECU if you follow the above,

You need relay packs if you retro without the full BMW/Hella kit with self leveling.
Even with BMW ballasts you will get the check lights error. (I did.) I read a post some time ago (20 months or so) relating to reprogramming and the owner had all sorts of "fun" after paying to have his X reprogrammed without the full retro kit fitted. He even had to pay to have it un-programmed but other errors persisted.
If you aim the lights properly you can get away without the self leveling circuits. At least until I market an aftermarket kit anyway. ;>)

US spec halogens do not come with self leveling in the 2000 - 2003 year range. (Somebody with a newer X can feel free to check and correct me.)
