no that is normal on an X, but once you get the speed up it gets realy light and responsive! i kinda like it, makes you feel like your driving a tank when your trying to park so lol..

Our 3.0D is fairly heavy at slow speeds - have you checked the tyre pressures?

Normal unless you get the Servotronic steering option. Servotronic boosts assist at low speeds.

I love the heavy weighting of the X5 steering. I agree with the tire pressure suggestion - lower makes the steering even heavier and higher noticeably lighter. But - I wouldn't necessarily adjust my tire pressure for steering feel - if you go too high your ride and tire wear will suffer if you go too far beyond spec. Also, the bigger and wider tires make the steering feel heavier as well. Feels great on the highway, doesn't it?!

Have you been driving Japanese previously? They're terribly over-assisted, as are a lot of American vehicles. BMW does it 'right' in my opinion.

I increased the air pressure on my 19" sport tires from 32 psi to 34 psi to even out the wear and can feel a slight reduction in steering effort.
