March 2006 X Series Sales Report

March sales of the BMW X3 and X5 Series totaled 5,535 units, down 2.4% from the 5,674 trucks sold last March. First quarter 2006 sales total 13,219 units which is an 11.4% decline when compared to the first quarter of 2005.

For those of you who are interested Mercedes-Benz sold 2,740 M Class units this month, up 20.0% from the 2,283 sold last March. The all new 2006 Model Year M Class was introduced in April, 2005 so last year’s sales were of the old model.

Please note that I only report the United States sales data.

So from Fred's figures, in the US, in March 2006:
The X3 outsold the X5 by 25%

The 3.0 X5 outsold the 4.4 X5 by more than 3 times

The 3.0 X5 outsold the 4.8 X5 by more than 18 times
While I am sure the figures are accurate, and likely representative of Canada as well (not sure about Europe, given the lack of 3.0D data), it is interesting that the figures are not at all representative of the posts on this forum. Not just by a little bit, either. The dearth of X3 posts in comparison to X5 posts, and the number of posts about the V8 models, just isn't supported by sales figures. Good info for all those who write in asking about a 3.0 and get told to buy a 4.4

Lemans:

Put another way, the vehicles that Chris Bangle is generally credited (or slated) for rose 31% in sales year over year. Everything else (X, Mini, etc) fell. Looks like the public is voting with their wallets.

One thing to consider in the sales figures is the deep discounting of the X3 3.0i lease rates. It is cheaper to lease an '06 X3 than an '06 325i despite a higher base sticker price. More leases, less mods.

BTW - The X5 is a Bangle design, his first for BMW if I'm not mistaken.
